Most popular alcoholic drinks

Alcoholic beverages are loved all over the world. There is a huge variety of them, so everyone can find something to their liking. However, there is one of the most popular alcoholic drinks. It is preferred to drink in many countries of the world. Below you will find more details about what these alcoholic drinks are and why so many people like them.

Whisky

For many years now, whisky has been at the top of the list of best-selling alcoholic beverages. And that’s to be expected. It is whisky that is being made and produced in many countries around the world. However, the best quality whisky is believed to be produced in Scotland and Ireland. India has the most quantity. This is how the highest quantity of whisky is made. A paradox like this. But there is an explanation: the country is full of fans of this strong drink. Around 219 million cases of nine litre bottles of whisky are sold per year.

Vodka

Vodka is sold in 126 million cases a year. The figure could have increased several times over if vodka products did not have so many varieties. And now there are grappa, chacha and other spirits to be found in the shops. Some people even like to ‘brew’ moonshine. Many people don’t understand why vodka is not the best-selling alcoholic drink in the world. But the same cannot be said of Russia. Here vodka is truly respected.

Rum

Over 75 million cases of rum are sold each year. It is quite an impressive figure. It is worth bearing in mind that the drink is mostly produced in the Caribbean, as well as in the United States (Philippines). The liquor is beloved by many people. It is associated with independence, gives a sense of freedom and peace.

Brandy and Cognac

Brandy and cognac can be considered as the same product. The only difference is that cognac is made exclusively in a French province. The same cannot be said of brandy. This alcoholic drink is produced all over the world. The two alcoholic beverages are similar in their production, ageing and taste, which is why they are included in the same line. However, it is worth giving the exact sales figures:

  • Brandy – over 57 million cases a year;
  • Cognac – 55 million cases a year.

Liquor

Liquor sales – more than 30 million cases a year. Traditional liqueurs, which include coffee, cream, fruit or dessert notes, take the lead. Next, people prefer bitter or bitter liqueurs, such as Becherovka or Jägermeister. The last position is occupied by anise and anise liqueur.

The Most Popular Alcoholic Beverages

Gin

Sales of gin are over 33 million cases a year. That’s not a small figure either. However, it should be noted that gin is not popular in all countries. For example, in Russia, this alcoholic beverage is not in great demand. However, it still has its fans. In addition, there are a large number of alcoholic cocktails, which are based on gin.

Tequila

Tequila sells almost six million cases a year. Compared to other alcoholic beverages, this is a rather small figure. This is because tequila is a rather specific product. However, in spite of this, no bar can do without tequila.

Other alcoholic drinks

Other alcoholic drinks cannot be ignored either. They are not as well known, but their production could be considered record-breaking. Take, for instance, Soju, a traditional drink from Korea. It sells more than 99 million cases a year. Soju is often considered a relative of regular vodka, but they are two different drinks. Soju is a clear liquid that is consumed in small sips. It comes in a variety of flavours.

Cachaça from Brazil also tops the list. Sales exceed forty million cases a year. This also includes baijiu, a traditional drink from China. It tastes a bit like moonshine. Baijiu is not available in the rest of the world. However, it has overtaken vodka and whisky in terms of sales in its home country.
